Goitre Information

The term 'goitre' refers to a swelling at the back of the neck. It can be described as the inflammation of the thyroid gland and is seen more in women than in men. Thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland, located below the Adam's apple, at the base of the neck. When goiter strikes a person, this gland gets enlarged and leads to discomfort. Though goiter does not cause pain, sometimes it may lead to coughing problem and even difficultly in swallowing and breathing. Deficiency of iodine is the primary cause of goiter.
